FRANZCOG MB BCH - Obstetrician
Dr Bronwen Byrne graduated from Queens University, Belfast in 1989 and promptly moved to Australia to be with her husband, a Brisbane boy she met in her final year of medical school.
Obstetrics and gynaecology was Bronwen’s favourite term as a student in Northern Ireland and it was during this time she delivered her first babies. It felt only natural that she should pursue a career in this area.
Her first job in obstetrics and gynaecology was as an intern at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in 1990. The next year Bronwen commenced work as a Principal House Officer in obstetrics and gynaecology at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital. She undertook all her post-graduate training in Queensland and completed her specialist training at Mater Mothers’ Hospital in 2003.
Bronwen worked initially in the public system and from 2004 to 2017, worked in private practice delivering her patients exclusively at the Mater Mothers’ Hospital. Her two daughters were also born at the Mater Mothers’ Hospital.
Bronwen made a decision to close her private practice in 2017. She was invited to join Hatch Private Maternity in 2018 and was excited to embrace a new model of collaborative care.
The team approach allows Bronwen to continue working as an obstetrician and restore some work/life balance, an almost impossible task in solo private practice.
